Well, no, it's not quite our motto. What you're seeing are snippets from the Holy Bible, sayings from the saints, even lines from the un-canonized whose words carry more than rhetorical weight.
If The New Catholic Devotional were a paper publication, we'd probably arrange our issues by theme. Well, we're not on paper, and we don't quite do themes. These are our takes on a 'theme', though—not so much for the issue (we're publishing new material all the time) as for us as writers and readers, artists and art enthusiasts, Catholics in thought and (we pray) action.
So that's the idea! Ruminate on them. See if they stir something up. And, if you're curious, we'll always post links and information on this page about where the snippets come from and their place in Catholic culture. Just look below to get started. +NCD
Said of a month-old Christ at His presentation in the Temple, by Simeon. Simeon had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until seeing the savior. His song of praise is called the Canticle of Simeon, or the Nunc Dimittis.
Context: Luke 2:21–35 (Douay-Rheims) (NAB) (RSV)
It is also recited during evening prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours.
In art: The Presentation is a common theme in religious art, stretching back to the ancient Church. (Google it) +NCD
